Scholarships

If you are thinking of applying to go to University but are worried by the cost of a higher education then don’t worry! Financial assistance is available in all forms and types for a number of different situations.

It is also important to note that different institutions and universities offer different levels of funding and have different criteria that you have to meet. One thing that they all have in common is that they all have an application deadline! So make sure you know when to apply to make sure you don’t miss out on getting to university when you want to.

We’ve put together a list of institutions and universities, and some of their funding options, the majority of which are Scholarships. These are generally an award of financial aid for a student to further their education or assistance provided to students from poorer backgrounds.

You can jump right into the list here.

The most common scholarships may be classified as:

  • Merit-based: These awards are based on a student’s athletic, academic, artistic or other abilities, and often factor in an applicant’s community service record and extracurricular activities. The most common merit-based scholarships awarded by either private organizations or directly by a student’s intended college, recognize academic achievement in standardised assessments such as A’ Levels, AS Levels GNVQ’s and so on.
  • Need-based (Means Tested): These awards are based on the student and family’s financial position. Need-based scholarships will also often require the results of extensive checks, which calculate a student’s financial need through a formula looking at the expected family contribution and cost of attendance at the intended institution.
  • Career-specific: These are scholarships awarded by a college or university to students planning to pursue a specific field of study. Often the most generous awards are given to students pursuing careers in high-need areas such as science, engineering education and nursing. Nursing students are in high demand, and many schools will give future nurses full scholarships to enter the field, especially if the student intends to work in a high-need community.

Bear in mind this list is not a comprehensive list of everything available. Make sure you read the details, because they are sometimes subject to change from one year to the next. Follow up the information you find in this guide by checking what’s on their website.
